Description: Teachers and students collaborated on the goal of reducing waste produced at Hampstead Hill Academy Community Arts Night. At the November Community Arts Night waste was measured and recorded. The event generated 102.6lbs of waste. B’More Green Club members brainstormed ways to reduce this waste. They researched and selected reusable tablecloths and napkins, as well as biodegradable cutlery made from cornstarch. Waste was measured again at the December Community Arts Night and their efforts reduced the waste generated by 85lbs!

Date: Tuesdays and Thursdays during the school year

Description: Recycling Program - Middle School students apply to be part of the Green Team in September of each year. If selected, Green Team members are responsible for the collection of all the recycling in the school. These middle school students give up their recess time twice a week to gather recyclables from each classroom and offices and to ensure that fresh bags are always available to encourage all members of our community to choose recycling whenever possible. In addition to the recycling collection, the team members created and installed signs that are hanging above the bags which remind students and teachers the items that can properly be recycled.
