Objective 2.2: Energy Conservation

Action 1

Teacher(s): Parent Troop leaders Jill Morrison & Girl Scout troop #5394

Grade: K, 1, 2

Date: November 11, 2019

Description: Before this project, only five rooms in the building had light switch turn off reminders.  Now every room in the building has them. The girl scout troop designed and created light switch plates for every room in the school building to help everyone to remember to turn off the lights when they leave the room.

Brownie Girl Scout Troop 5394 at Hampstead Hill Academy decided to take action as part of their Outdoor Journey. After Brownie brainstorming on how to help our school help our planet, they met with parent volunteer, Leana Houser on November 11th to discuss the three Rs- Reduce, Reuse Recycle. They came up with tips to share over the morning announcements, and for two weeks made the announcements in teams of two.

The thirteen girls created signs to remind teachers, staff, and students to save resources by turning off lights and other electronics in their classrooms each day. The girls created the signs on the back-side of paper and then helped to place them on all the rooms fo the school in December.

The girls feel proud to see their signs and to know they are helping to make a difference by sharing their knowledge with the school community.
